Detailed Itinerary
This land tour needs to be accompanied by one of the following cruise itineraries
This itinerary starts AFTER the accompanying cruise itinerary.
Day 1: Anchorage
After disembarking your cruise ship, you will be met by your private driver and make your way from the pier to Anchorage passing along scenic Turnagain Arm along the way. Upon arrival, enjoy a personal tour of the city including a visit to the highly acclaimed Alaska Native Heritage Center. Next you'll visit the home and studio of a local artist to see their work and Alaskan lifestyle through their eyes. A light luncheon spread will be offered before you transfer to your hotel for check in. The rest of the day and evening are at your leisure. Overnight at the Captain Cook Hotel, Anchorage.
Day 2: Anchorage to Winterlake
After an early continental breakfast at your hotel, your wilderness fishing adventure begins as you are picked up at 7 am and transferred to Lake Hood - the world's largest float plane base - for a 50-minute scenic float-plane flight to Winterlake Lodge, a true gem in the heart of Alaska's wilderness. If the weather allows, you will have the chance to see Mt. McKinley en route. Land at Winterlake Lodge along the Iditarod Trail and check into your cabin. Morning breakfast is served upon request. Meet your hosts, the Dixon family, and plan your fishing expedition with your fishing guide. You will then depart for neighboring waters via fixed-wing or helicopter aircraft for a full day of fly or spin sport fishing (hip waders, rods and tackle included). In general, springtime at Winterlake offers Rainbow trout and Arctic grayling. By mid-June, king salmon arrive, followed by the other four species of Pacific salmon: sockeye, pinks, chums and silvers through the first of September. The fall season ends with Arctic Grayling, Rainbow trout and Dolly varden. The lodge will pack a hearty streamside lunch for you and you are returned to the lodge in time for appetizers and a delicious gourmet dinner. Book a complimentary massage for the evening or following morning. Relax in the library or hot tub. Overnight at Winterlake Lodge.
Day 3: Winterlake
Start your day with a leisurely canoe paddle on the lake, or an early-morning yoga and stretch class before enjoying a hearty breakfast at the main lodge. Then board your float plane or helicopter at 9:15 a.m. for a second day of fishing. Location is based upon best fishing at the time and weather, and targeted species depends on season. A tasty lunch from the lodge will be sent with you. Return to the lodge in time for appetizers, dinner, and another evening of fish stories, relaxing or enjoying the many activities available. Overnight at Winterlake Lodge.
Day 4: Winterlake to Anchorage
After breakfast at the lodge, say your farewells and depart the lodge for the flight to Anchorage. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the International airport for your flight home.
