Glacier Bay

Cruisetour Itinerary Description
The marine wilderness of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve provides opportunities for adventuring, observing and exploring. Amidst majestic scenery, Glacier Bay offers us now, and for all time, a connection to a powerful and wild landscape. The park has snow-capped mountain ranges rising to over 15,000 feet, coastal beaches with protected coves, deep fjords, tidewater glaciers, coastal and estuarine waters, and freshwater lakes. These diverse land and seascapes host a mosaic of plant communities ranging from pioneer species in areas recently exposed by receding glaciers, to climax communities in older coastal and alpine ecosystems. Diverse habitats support a variety of marine and terrestrial wildlife, with opportunities for viewing and learning more about the natural world.

Detailed Itinerary
This land tour needs to be accompanied by one of the following cruise itineraries
This itinerary starts AFTER the accompanying cruise itinerary.
Day 1: Anchorage to Gustavus
After disembarking your cruise ship you will meet your private driver and begin a two and a half hour scenic transfer along the shoreline between the Chugach Mountains and the waters of Turnagain Arm to reach Anchorage. You'll stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center whose mission is to provide care for injured and orphaned wildlife and to provide continued wildlife awareness and education to the public. Surrounded by mountains and hanging glaciers, the 140-acre Portage Valley preserve is a nonprofit operation that works to rehabilitate injured or sick animals. Besides bears, there are bison, moose, caribou, elk, eagles, owls, musk oxen, Sitka black-tailed deer and a variety of game birds. It's a great way to photograph wild animals in a setting as close to authentic as you can get. A stop will be made at the beautiful Alyeska Prince Resort in Girdwood for you to explore and have an early lunch on your own. By early afternoon you will arrive at the Anchorage airport for your flight to Juneau. Upon arrival at the Juneau airport, you will be met and transferred to your charter airplane for the flight to Gustavus, the gateway to Glacier Bay. You will be met upon arrival in Gustavus and transferred to Glacier Bay's Bear Track Inn. Glacier Bay National Park is a wonderful place to visit - one of the most beautiful places in North America. The Glacier Bay Bear Track Inn is situated on the tranquil shores of Gustavus, and features exquisite accommodations, incredible activities, scrumptious meals, and true Alaskan ambience and hospitality - all with Glacier Bay National Park as a backdrop. The rest of the day and evening are at leisure. Dinner and overnight at The Glacier Bay Bear Track Inn, Gustavus.
Day 2: Gustavus
After an early breakfast at the inn, you will be transferred to the local harbor to board a vessel and begin your private day trip into the waterways of Glacier Bay National Park. As you travel through the park, enjoy an interpretive narrative by a Park Ranger, as you learn and view the natural wonder that created this unique marine park. Hold on as the tidewater glaciers calve right in front of you. Keep your eyes alert as you pass by rookeries full of many species of waterfowl, such as pigeon guillemots, tufted puffins and horn-billed puffins. Scan the rock formations for mountain goats and brown bears. Pass by Marble Island and its resident sea lion clan. The marine wilderness of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve provides opportunities for adventure, a living laboratory for observing the ebb and flow of glaciers, and a chance to study life as it returns in the wake of retreating ice. Enjoy mimosa's or orange juice on the deck of your boat while you watch the magical and magnificent glaciers calving. You will have a chance to imbibe in a very unique and one of a kind beverage. Although the drink is not unusual, the ice is. The ice in your drink will be glacier ice collected from the Bay, just for your drinks! Enjoy a light lunch and snack as you cruise the Bay. After returning to the inn, the rest of the afternoon and evening will be at your leisure. Dinner and overnight at The Glacier Bay Bear Track Inn, Gustavus.
Day 3: Gustavus
After breakfast at the inn, you will be transferred to the marina for your private whale watching excursion. Explore one of Alaska's richest marine wildlife habitats. The captain is excellent at spotting wildlife. You'll have the opportunity to observe humpback whales, bald eagles, stellar sea lions, seals, sea otters, orca whales and many species of birds. The crew will give you an understanding of these wild animals and their unique environment. Those guests not wishing to go whale watching can opt for a morning fishing adventure. Upon completion of the tour you will return to the lodge. After lunch, the afternoon and evening are at your leisure to choose hiking, relaxing or perhaps one of the additional cost tours offered by the inn. Dinner and overnight at The Glacier Bay Bear Track Inn, Gustavus.
Day 4: Gustavus to Juneau
After breakfast at the inn, fly back to Juneau where you will connect with your flight home.
