Best of Juneau and Ketchikan Package #1

Package Cost is $101.00 USD Per Person, Including Tax

Juneau - JUNEAU CITY AND MENDENHALL GLACIER TOUR
Juneau is one of the most unique state capitals in the United States. Although Juneau isn’t an island, it is land locked, and you can only get to it by air or sea. This exciting half-day program will give you an orientation of Juneau, and a visit to the Mendenhall Glacier and Visitor's Center. Your tour begins in the historical downtown district, where you will see the streets lined with gift shops, jewelry shops, king crab shacks and local fish restaurants. The tour will take you right by the Governor’s Mansion, the State Capitol, and the world-famous Red Dog Saloon.

Departing the downtown area, you will make your way north to the Valley Area and the Mendenhall Glacier. Along the way you will see boat harbors filled with Alaskan fishing boats, as well as boathouses and the Mendenhall Wetland Refuge. On clear days, you can see the majestic Chilkat Mountains in the distance. Once you arrive at the park, you will have some time to walk around the Visitor Center, which has an elevated view of the glacier. The Visitor’s Center hosts exhibits as well as a short film about the Juneau Icefields. Admission to the Visitor Center is included in the price of the tour.

For those guests feeling more adventurous in their Mendenhall Glacier Excursions, there are several short hiking paths and walking trails around the lake area, including Photo Point Trail, which winds along Mendenhall Lake to an unobstructed view of the glacier face. At the appointed time, meet your guide for the trip back to town. The tour comes to an end with a stop at famous Douglas Island, a historic mining community, for photo opportunities and panoramic views across the ocean to downtown Juneau. You will then arrive back to the main cruise ship terminal.

Ketchikan - SAXMAN NATIVE VILLAGE AND KETCHIKAN TOUR
This quick two-hour guided tour includes sights in the Ketchikan area, photo stops, and time at Saxman Native Village. Enjoy the city tour aboard a San Francisco-style trolley or motor coach. The views are outstanding as you travel past the rustic waterfront, boat harbors and the picturesque city park. You will stop near one of Ketchikan's private salmon canneries, where eagles are almost always in attendance. See a salmon ladder and watch salmon spring from the rushing water en route to the spawning grounds (late July through September). A stop will also be made for a brief introduction to a rainforest.

At Saxman Native Village, you'll gaze and be amazed at the world's largest standing collection of totem poles. You will hear the legends and stories of these ancient and majestic totem poles, and learn how and why they were made. You will also make an exterior-only visit to the Clan House, where your guide will explain some of the many carved figures. You will then have a short amount of free time to visit the Village Store and Artists Co-op, where authentic arts and crafts are made by Saxman Natives. This tour does not include carving or native performances. Once back in town, a stop will be made at Historic Creek Street. This was Ketchikan's former busy red light district, and is now home to the world-famous Dolly's House Museum. Guests can choose to either end the tour here (approximately 10 minutes' walk from the cruise pier) or be returned to the pier. Your tour includes a ticket to Dolly's House Museum.

Skagway - SKAGWAY CITY AND WHITE PASS SUMMIT TOUR
Sure to be a highlight of your Alaskan experience, the Skagway City and White Pass Summit Tour begins with a guided mini-coach tour of Skagway's Historic District. Your guide will explain why Skagway was known as the toughest town on earth during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897-99.

On this Skagway cruise tour, you will visit historic points of interest such as the Klondike Gold Rush Cemetery (aka Skagway's Boot Hill), where you will learn of the gunfight between Frank Reid and Soapy Smith, the most famous shootout since the OK Corral. A stop will also be made at the Scenic Skagway Overlook. Your guide will take your picture with the town below, the mountains in the background, and your cruise ship in the harbor.

As you journey up the scenic Klondike Highway, you will travel parallel to the historic White Pass Trail much of the way to the 3,292 foot summit. Along this glacier carved valley are glaciers, thundering waterfalls, majestic mountain vistas and pristine wilderness. Once at the summit, you will descend into the daunting Tormented Valley in British Columbia, Canada. It is this area which inspired the classic authors Robert Service and Jack London. The Tormented Valley is an eco-tone; here, two separate ecosystems transform to become the other. After visiting this area of 300 to 400-year-old trees known as 'Krummholz' many of which are no taller than chest-high, you will return to Skagway. During your tour, various photo stops will be made to help you maximize your Alaskan experience.

Juneau - WHALES AND MENDENHALL GLACIER
Alaska's spectacular whales and the Mendenhall Glacier, all in a half-day program on a boat holding a maximum of only 40 guests. Whale viewing is guaranteed. Your adventure begins with a short drive to a scenic harbor. Here, you will board a mammal-friendly jet boat equipped with water jet drives to ensure a quiet underwater operation without dangerous propellers that may frighten or harm the animals. The boats have an enclosed and heated cabin, complete with indoor plumbing. In addition, the boat only holds a maximum of 40 guests. There are large viewing windows and an outdoor viewing deck, providing an up-close and personal experience while you observe and photograph the animals in their natural surroundings.

You will be on the boat for approximately two hours in an area that the whales frequent every summer. Returning to the pier, you will travel further into the valley to see the only "drive up" glacier in Southeast Alaska. Once you arrive at the Visitor's Center (entrance included) you will have approximately 45 minutes to explore on your own. You can walk around the Visitor's Center, which has an elevated view of the glacier across the Mendenhall Lake, or view exhibits as well as a short film about the Juneau Ice Fields. For those guests feeling more adventurous, there are several hiking paths around the lake area, including Photo Point Trail, which winds along Mendenhall Lake to an unobstructed view of the glacier face. At the appointed time, meet your guide for the trip back to town.

Ketchikan - ZIPLINE ADVENTURE PARK
Your excursion begins as you board your motor coach for a scenic, narrated 25 minute drive out of downtown Ketchikan to Knudson Cove, an "off the beaten track" waterfront property in the Tongass National Forest-your playground for the next 2 hours. Before you begin, professional guides will instruct and outfit you with the best safety equipment in an open air forest pavilion. Then the adventure begins as gravity pulls you along seven zip lines. You will catch glimpses of bald eagles and the ocean below as you glide through old growth cedars, fly into an ancient tree onto the Eagle's Nest Platform, traverse a swaying log, swing across rope loops, feel the speed and acceleration of landing on a one of a kind ocean platform located 50' over the water, and finally the rush of zipping to the ground.

Once back on ground, if you still haven't had enough, head over to the 50-foot climbing tower where guides will show you techniques needed to climb to the top. A circular staircase inside the tower enables others to climb up, take in the mountain and ocean views, and snap photos of climbers proudly ringing the bell at the top of the wall. Don’t worry! These ziplines are easy. There is no hand braking. Braking systems are state of the art. For the less adventurous members of your party, guides can assist you to skip elements. After your adventure, there is time to shop for souvenirs before boarding your motor coach for the return drive back to the pier. Ready to zip? Then come out and zip! Don't miss out on this unique and supernatural rainforest canopy experience with Ketchikan’s most experienced adventure company.

Skagway - SCENIC SKAGWAY FLOAT
Setting out from the downtown area on your family-friendly Scenic Skagway Float excursion, enjoy a 10-mile drive along the coast to the beautiful Dyea Valley, home to an old Gold Rush settlement now returned to nature. On the drive, you may spot seals and eagles and your driver will share some information on the area's history and nature

Upon arrival at the put-in location, you will get your flotation vest before boarding the rubber raft with your captain/guide. Along with your group of at most 10 guests, you will sit back and let your guide do the paddling. They will point out wildlife, native plants and tell stories of the area’s fascinating history as you float down the gentle Taiya River. Float time is approximately 40 - 45 minutes on the river depending on the current. After the rafting enjoy a riverside snack. Time permitting, you will also stop at the Skagway scenic overlook for a panoramic view of the town after the float.

Ketchikan - MISTY FJORDS FLIGHTSEEING
The Misty Fjords National Monument has been carved to impressive perfection by millions of years of glacial activity. On this popular flightseeing tour, it will take you only the blink of an eye to appreciate nature's handiwork. The Misty Fjords National Monument is a 2.3-million acre piece of pristine wilderness that must be viewed by floatplane to truly take in its majesty: soaring cliffs, saw-tooth ridges blanketed in trademark mists, sky-blue lakes, endless waterfalls, icy saltwater fjords and miles of glacier-carved gorges.

While you take in the enormity of the Misty Fjords National Monument from above, you will listen to information on the area, as well as appropriate music over your noise-reducing headphones. While taking you on the most scenic flight possible based on that day's weather conditions, your pilot will keep an eye open for wildlife below. While wildlife spotting is never guaranteed, keep scanning the scenery below, where you may see creatures big and small, from burly brown bears to agile mountain goats; from harbor seals to humpback whales. Depending on the visibility that day, your pilot usually tries to stay approximately 1000 feet above the scenery, offering you the best up-close view from a safe distance. Maximum altitude reached is approximately 4,000 feet above sea level. A water landing on a mountain lake for photos and reflection is included.

The Spectacular Misty Fjords Tour is a must-see flightseeing experience that will provide a lifetime of memories. For safety reasons, talking to the pilot during the flight is not possible. Questions can be asked while at the lake landing and after the flight. Total flying time, including the water landing time, is approximately 1.5 hours.

Skagway - HELICOPTER GLACIER DISCOVERY
